Install a reinforced column base on Dualtron Thunder 2: gain stability and precision

(Because good riding starts with a solid base.)

Dualtron Thunder 2 riders know it: with time and miles, a slight play in the steering column can appear.
Nothing dramatic, but enough to alter stability, steering precision, and the feeling of control.
The solution? Install a reinforced column base.

This reinforcement not only eliminates any unwanted play but also stiffens the connection between the handlebars and the chassis, for a more precise, safer, and more aggressive ride.

Why install a reinforced column base?

On the Dualtron Thunder 2, the original column offers good overall rigidity, but the design can sometimes lead to a slight wobble at the clamping collar.
This micro-play can become bothersome, especially at high speeds or during strong braking.

The reinforced column base replaces or complements the original part, offering:

  • A better column hold.

  • A total reduction of play.

  • More direct and precise steering, and a stiffer feel in the cockpit.

In short: more stability, fewer vibrations, and greater confidence in every turn.

What you need for installation

Tools:

  • Set of Allen keys

  • Mechanical grease (optional)

  • Screwdriver

  • And most importantly: longer clamping screws than the original ones

These screws are not always supplied with the column base.
It is advisable to get custom screws, slightly longer (+5 to +10 mm depending on the model) to ensure optimal tightening.

Installation steps

  1. Remove the old collar / column base

    • Disassemble the original clamping system.

    • Clean the contact area on the column and chassis thoroughly to remove any dust or oxidation.

  2. Position the reinforced column base

    • Align the part perfectly with the column tube.

    • Check that it fits without forcing: the tolerance should be tight but fluid.

  3. Install the new screws

    • Use your long screws.

    • Screw progressively, crossing the tightening to distribute the pressure.

    • Do not overtighten beyond the recommended torque—rigidity comes from balanced tightening, not brute force.

  4. Test the tightening

    • Gently shake the handlebars to check that the play has disappeared.

    • Turn the steering: it should be fluid, without any hard spots.

Result: a transformed ride

Once in place, the difference is felt from the very first meters:

  • The play in the column completely disappears.

  • The steering feel is firmer and more precise.

  • When cornering, the scooter gains stability and responds instantly to the slightest input.

It's a simple improvement, but it radically changes the riding feel.
Less wobble, more confidence, and a real sense of solidity under your hands.

In summary

Installing a reinforced column base on your Dualtron Thunder 2 means:

  • Permanently eliminating play in the column.

  • Improving rigidity and steering precision.

  • And enjoying a more direct, safer, and higher-performing feel.

Just remember to provide longer clamping screws, custom-made, for a perfect and durable assembly.
